Cosmos and India: What the Brand Is and What the 2025 Act Changed

Cosmos is an international gambling brand with a casino lobby and a sportsbook, and many Indian readers still search for it by name. This page explains what sits behind that name — the account, the game lobby, the mirror addresses — and, just as plainly, what the law now says: since 1 May 2026, online money games are prohibited in India. cosmoscasino.biz is an information site, not the operator, and nothing here is an invitation to stake money.

What changed on 1 May 2026

The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025 (Act No. 32 of 2025) received assent on 22 August 2025, and MeitY notified its enforcement on 22 April 2026, bringing it into force on 1 May 2026. It prohibits online money games: any game where a user pays money or other stakes expecting monetary or other enrichment, whether the game depends on skill or chance. What remains permitted are e-sports and social or educational games, overseen by the Online Gaming Authority of India under MeitY. The Act states that it applies to services operated from outside India but accessible to users in India, which covers international brands such as Cosmos.

Penalties in the Act are aimed at those who offer, advertise or process payments for money games. Offering them (section 5) and facilitating payments for them (section 7) can lead to up to 3 years in prison and/or a fine of up to ₹1 crore; advertising that directly or indirectly promotes them (sections 6 and 9) up to 2 years and/or ₹50 lakh. Constitutional challenges were transferred to the Supreme Court on 8 September 2026, and the Act remains in force while they are pending. Whether a player can personally face charges depends on the Act and on state laws, which differ — treat this page as background, not legal advice.

The Cosmos lobby, described rather than recommended

People still ask what kind of games the brand offers, so here is the honest version. The eight titles it promotes are mostly quick, arcade-style formats rather than classic card tables: a prize wheel with a fishing theme, a football-themed game, a pinball board, a puzzle built on the 2048 tile-merging idea, and several themed video slots. Each has a short page on this site describing the format. None of them should be played for money from India, and we deliberately leave out return rates, studios and win figures.

The games overview sorts the lobby into slots, live casino and table games, and our sports betting explainer looks at how cricket and football markets are built — as information, not as tips.

Why a working mirror does not make it lawful

When a gambling domain is blocked, brands often switch readers to an alternative address, and search results fill up with lists of "working links". Blocking orders in India come from MeitY, while investigations sit with state and union territory cyber cells. An alternative domain, a different app source or a VPN changes only the route to the same service; it does not change what the Act prohibits. Mirror lists are also where copycat pages hide: a domain that differs by one character can collect logins, documents and phone numbers. Our page on mirrors explains how these copies work and why a blocked site is not one to chase.

Accounts, documents and your data

Readers who opened an account before May 2026 often ask what to do with it. The operator's support desk is the only party that can close an account or answer questions about a balance, so write to it from the email registered on the account and keep every reply. Change the password if you ever reused it elsewhere, and remove saved cards or linked details you no longer want stored. Be wary of anyone who contacts you first offering to "unlock" or "recover" an account for a fee — that is a common scam pattern. Our registration explainer describes what such accounts collect and why.

Bonuses and payments: what this site will not tell you

You will not find bonus offers or deposit instructions here. Section 7 of the Act prohibits banks, financial institutions and any person from facilitating payments for online money games, and section 6 bans promotion of such games. A page explaining how to fund a gaming wallet would be exactly the kind of help the law forbids, so we do not write one, and we do not describe sign-up offers or withdrawal methods.

Help without judgement

If gambling — online or offline — is costing you sleep, money or peace at home, talking to someone helps. Tele MANAS, run by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, answers free and around the clock at 14416 or 1800-891-4416 in more than 20 languages; it is a general mental-health line rather than a gambling service, and that is fine to start with. Gambling Therapy offers free, gambling-specific support online through chat and forums, and Gamblers Anonymous lists peer meetings. India has no national self-exclusion register, so our self-exclusion page explains what you can still do yourself, and the responsible gambling page covers warning signs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play at Cosmos for money from India?

No. Since 1 May 2026 the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025 prohibits online money games in India, whether they rely on skill or chance. The Act says it also covers services run from outside India that Indian users can access.

Does Cosmos have an Indian licence?

No such licence exists. India has no licence or register for real-money online gaming, so a casino or betting site that claims to hold an Indian licence is not telling the truth.

If the site opens through a mirror, is it allowed?

No. A mirror is just another address for the same service. Blocking is done by MeitY, and reaching a site through a different domain or a VPN does not change what the Act prohibits.

I opened an account before the ban. What now?

Contact the operator's support from the email registered on the account, ask in writing how to close it and what happens to any balance, and keep copies of the replies. Do not share passwords or one-time codes with anyone who contacts you first.

Where can I talk to someone about gambling?

Tele MANAS, the national tele-mental-health line, answers free and 24/7 at 14416 or 1800-891-4416 in more than 20 languages; it is not gambling-specific. Gambling Therapy offers free gambling-specific support online.
